The length of the Guarda – Cerdeira stretch on the Beira Alta line, from Pk 209 + 000 to Pk 223 +000 (14 km).

Scope of Work

The modernization on the stretch of the Beira Alta line between Guarda and Cerdeira, includes the following work:

  • Complete renewal of 14 km of track by replacing the bi-block concrete sleepers with multi-purpose concrete monoblock sleepers and 54 kg/m track with 60 kg/m track;

  • Stabilization of the track platform and improvement of the drainage system;

  • Stabilization of slopes;

  • Adaptation of the overhead contact line infrastructure;

  • Implementation of the Traction Return Current + Soil and Protection (RCT+TP) system;

  • Adaptation of the current signaling and telecommunications infrastructure.

Benefits

The modernization of this stretch will allow speeds to be standardized through the improvement of track parameters. A new life cycle for the infrastructure will also start, now prepared for the future migration to European gauge.
