Sustainability

Our work is guided towards a future with more sustainable mobility and we are aware of the responsibility of our Mission and its impact on society.

We want to contribute to the European Ecological Pact , and the Green Deal, which set out a new growth strategy for EU countries based on carbon neutrality, the efficient use of resources in the transition to a circular economy, the restoration of biodiversity and the reduction of pollution.

Ensuring that the management and operation of our vast infrastructure of more than 15,000 km of road network, 2,526 km of railway and 465 stations with rail traffic are compatible with the principles of sustainable development and environmental protection is an ongoing challenge.

Our aim is to define the materiality of the topics which are relevant to IP and initiate a dialog with our main stakeholders so that we can meet their expectations. With this in mind, our Sustainability Strategy has been defined and is based on five axes: Energy Transition; Climate Change; Environment; Circular Economy; Social Responsibility.

This strategy is further oriented to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations, particularly with regard to those which are more applicable to IP’s mission and work.

We seek to consolidate our dedication to this strategy, taking on multiple national and international commitments which guide our focus and bring added responsibility to our mission with respect to the use of our infrastructure and in relation to the community in general.

Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, the United Nations defined targets to improve the world by 2030, set out as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which address economic, social and environmental issues.

The 2030 Agenda results from cooperation between governments and people from all over the world to create a new global model to end poverty, promote prosperity and well-being, protect the environment and fight climate change.

IP is committed to this aim and has implemented actions for the SDG where we are more influential and relevant.

Commitments

IP has joined several movements and external groups which are leading some of the strategies to save the planet and fight climate change, formalizing such commitments via three main initiatives:
